The male and female Rugby tournaments for the Paris 2018 Gay Games 10 are being organized by Les Gaillards with the support of the French Rugby Federation (FFR).

Approximately 240 players are expected for this competition which is open to everyone, regardless of the level.

Symbolizing the Gay Games values, this competition will be a demonstration of the «rugby spirit» and the beauty of our sport.

Each Rugby participant, competitor or supporter, will show the deepest respect for his/her team members as well as the opponents as well as the referees’ decisions. We won’t forget the values of our community, both on the field and during intermissions.

This competition will align the sense of combat, respect, and fair play in order to create larger bonds among the players of rugby around the world.

Registration

To participate in this event, each player must be at least 18 years old. They must also be respectful of the rugby spirit and the values of the Gay Games.

A team is composed of 7 to 12 persons.

Registration is done on the PARIS 2018 GAY GAMES 10 registration site. No registrations will be accepted at the venue.

The registration fees include snacks and lunches on the days of competition.

The spectators are encouraged to come and support their favorite teams.

Rules

The applicable rules are those of the International Rugby Board (IRB).

Program

The first three days of competition will feature round robin matches. The next two days will feature the finals.

Each day, warm-ups start at 8am and the first matches start at 9am.

Coffee breaks and lunch for all the players will be offered at the event site by the tournament organization team.

For the men’s tournament, the 16 teams will divide up into 4 groups of 4 teams.

The 2 best teams from each pool will play the final phase (elimination matches).

For the women’s tournament, the 8 teams will divide up into 2 pools of 4 teams.

The 2 best teams from each pool will play the final phases (elimination matches).

At the end of the two finals, the presentation of official medals will be preceded by a festive party just for all the participating rugby teams.

The Organizing Committee of PARIS 2018 GAY GAMES 10 reserves the right to modify the planning of the tournaments in case of necessity.

Categories

There are no specific categories for the rugby tournaments.

There will be only one division for the men’s tournament and one division for the women’s tournament.

    In 2003, Les Gaillards were the first gay-friendly club to appear in France, with a determination for tolerance and diversity. The team brought together players without distinction of sex, age, sexual orientation, origin or sporting level.

    The vocation of Les Gaillards remains to form links in the context of sports activity in the spirit and values of rugby.

    Frédérique is a squash player and sports director of the city of Meudon. She joined the Paris 2018 Sports team in 2015 and was elected director of sports in 2017.

Results

The players on the first 3 teams in each tournament will receive  gold, silver or bronze medals.

These winning teams will also receive a trophy according to their standing.
